How to Maintain Balance in Your Life

I’m sure you’ve heard this term before “Life is all about balance”. But it’s definitely easier said than done. You can start the New Year with all of these goals and then forget to take care of yourself in the process. How can you make time in your life to stay motivated, work on your passions, while also enjoying your life?

1. It may sound selfish, but remember to prioritize yourself first.

This comes before career, friendships, and even family. I’m a strong believer in the idea that I cannot be my best self for anyone unless I have had time to myself to recharge and cater to me. Something like that will look like a 5-10 minute meditation in the morning, having spiritual time with God, a workout at the gym, or taking myself on a date to a coffee shop to journal and get some writing done. It doesn’t have to be something as wild as getting a massage every day (though that is completely allowed) but it does mean having time to REST and check in with yourself.

2. Cater to your relationships without stretching yourself thin.

Relationships are important, no one gets through life alone. So making time to be with them is important. Have an outing with a a friend AT LEAST once a week. It’s a good time to check in with the people around you and have them check in with you. It’s letting them know that you care about them in the midst of you working on your passions.

3. Plan out your week before it comes.

Have you ever gone to the gym without having a single idea of what you’re going to do? So you spend most of the time that you’re there trying to figure out which machines work for what body part and how many reps yours going to do. Yeah, it never works. Having a lot of goals but no plan of execution is a lot like that. You can have a lot of passions but if you don’t maximize your time well, you will never complete any of them. So give yourself realistic goals at the beginning of the week by setting aside AT LEAST one day to work on one of your passions. If you have a play you’ve been meaning to get back to ( me lol) set aside one day of the week where you are going to just open up the file for 30 minutes and see what happens. That is checking in with your passions and keeping them at the forefront of your mind.

4. Actually make a list of what all your passions are.

It’s helpful to see them all out in the open. To actually allow yourself to think about all the things you want to pursue and how you are going to make that happen. There is something incredibly motivating about goal setting and allowing yourself the ability to dream and make those dreams become a reality. Listing them out will allow you to figure out which are the most important to you and make you feel more motivated to go after them.

5. Have faith in yourself.

You have the ability to create the life you’ve always imagined for yourself. To be the version of yourself you knew you were meant to be. Don’t wait for someone else to tell you who they think you are. Show them and know that you are in absolute control of your own journey.
